02 / FAN PORTAL

Tokyo Revengers Fan Portal

A dark, cinematic fan portal with gang-based filtering, moderated fan submissions, and inline episode modals — built around a normalized schema for many-to-many character, gang, and episode relationships.

OVERVIEW

A fan hub built around relationships, not just pages

Rather than a flat list of characters, the portal models the actual relationships between characters, gangs, and episodes through 4 normalized junction tables — so filtering by gang, browsing character arcs, and moderating fan-submitted content all resolve in 3 queries instead of 12+ separate N+1 lookups.

SYSTEM DESIGN

How it's built

01 / SCHEMA

Junction tables (character_gangs, episode_characters) keep many-to-many relationships modular instead of duplicating data across flat tables.

02 / QUERIES

SQL joins and GROUP_CONCAT pull connected data — relationships, quotes, appearances — in a small number of queries rather than N+1 lookups.

03 / UX

Inline episode modals and gang-based filters update the page with no full reloads, keeping the cinematic, dark-themed browsing experience uninterrupted.

NEXT STEPS

What I'd do with more time

Add authentication so users can save favorites and bookmarks.

Build a lightweight moderation queue UI for fan submissions.
